Meet Sam Lucania

Professional Speaker. Personal Trainer. Father.

Out here proving that the mind can be trained just like the body.

About Sam

In 2013, Sam almost lost his life to a drug overdose. When he woke up, he knew he'd been given a second chance — he just didn't know yet what he was supposed to do with it. He knew one thing for certain: he couldn't waste it.

That moment changed the direction of his entire life.

Sam started out as a personal trainer, wanting to help people get stronger physically. But the longer he worked with clients, the clearer it became that strength isn't just physical. Confidence, recovery, prevention, and mental toughness are all tied together.

"You can train your body all day long, but if you never train your mind, the same patterns will keep showing up."

In 2017, after writing his first book, Sam stepped on a stage for the first time — and knew immediately he'd found what he was meant to do with that second chance. Speaking gave him a way to take the pain, the mistakes, and the lessons of his past and turn them into something useful for someone else.

A few years later, Sam met Steve Wise, author of the Mental Fitness Curriculum, and something clicked. Steve had built the framework — but Sam had lived it. His life was proof of what happens when those tools become real. The two partnered immediately, and Sam's mission has stayed simple ever since: help students, athletes, educators, families, and teams train their minds the same way we train our bodies.

Today, Sam works as a speaker, personal trainer, recovery coach, and content creator, bringing Mental Fitness into classrooms, assemblies, athletic programs, corporate teams, and district-wide initiatives across the country. Whether he's in front of a high school gym, a college auditorium, or a corporate conference room, his message adapts to the room — but the core stays the same: you are not your past, you are not your worst decision, and you are not stuck with the voice in your head if that voice is holding you back.

Before any of those titles, though, Sam is a dad. He's the proud father of three boys — Micah, Malachi, and Leighton — and most of his personal fitness goals come down to something simple: he wants to be the dad who's never too injured, too tired, or too out of shape to play with his kids.

When he's not on stage or working with clients, you'll find Sam outside, at the gym, playing with his dogs, or chasing his boys around. He lives in South Carolina and can't stay away from the water for long — pool, beach, or lake, doesn't matter. He's also a committed reader of personal growth books; Atomic Habits and The Four Agreements are two of his go-tos, right alongside the Mental Fitness Workbook.

Mental Fitness is about learning to catch your thoughts, check what's actually true, and choose the next right response.

That shift is what changed Sam's life, and it's what he now helps students, athletes, teams, and organizations practice every single day.

Because when you train the mind, you change the game.
